TERM 2 UNIT: TRIGONOMETRY, Lesson 3: Pythagoras Theorem
LESSON 3. PYTHAGORAS THEOREM
Objectives
By the end of this lesson, students should:
- Define Pythagoras Theorem
- find the length of one side if you know the lengths of the other two sides
For us to define Pythagoras Theorem, let’s consider the right-angle triangle Shown below.

TERM 2 UNIT: TRIGONOMETRY, Lesson 2: Enlargement
LESSON 2: ENLARGEMENTS
Objectives:
By the end of this lesson students should be able to:
- Define enlargement and scale factor
- Able to solve problems involving scale factor.
ENLARGEMENT
When an object is enlarged, its shape stays the same,
but its size changes. The image of a shape after an enlargement is similar to
the original shape.
Enlargements can be a little bit trickier than the
other transformations. They are described by two properties — a scale factor (a
number) and a center of enlargement
(given using coordinates).
SCALE FACTOR
Definition: The
scale factor of an enlargement tells you how many times longer the sides of the
new shape are compared to the old shape.
For example, enlarging by a scale factor of 2 makes
each side twice as long.
Scale factors can also be fractions. If
the scale factor is a fraction between –1 and 1,
then the enlargement will shrink the
shape.

TERM 2 UNIT: TRIGONOMETRY, Lesson 1: Congruence and Similar Triangle
LESSON 1: CONGURENT
Objectives:
By the end of this lesson students should be able to:
- Define congruence and congruent shapes.
- Define congruent triangles.
CONGRUENCE
Definition: Two
shapes are congruent if they are exactly the same shape and size. In other
words, if two shapes are congruent, all the side lengths and
angles on one
shape must be identical to
the side length and angles on the other shape.
Always remember, a translated, rotated of reflected
shape is always congruent to the original shape.
